Tape Art is just what its name implies: artwork done with tape. A
wonderful green Drawing Tape tm is employed by our hands and hearts
to create temporary drawings on just about any wall, surface or ceiling.
We work within a canon of life-sized representation, with the silhouettes
of people, plants and animals featured prominently. Our creations are
temporary; most are removed within 24 hours of their completion, However,
those witness to the tape-graced spaces often undergo a lasting impression;
in the tape’s absence there now exists a profound sense of possibility.
Tape Art’s
origins date back beyond a decade, when a group of freshmen at the
Rhode Island School of Design decided to use what tape was on hand
to create an ever-changing series of murals over the span of a semester.
15 years of experience, a nationwide tour, over 350 murals, and thousands
of tape rolls later, Tape Art has enlivened school gymnasiums, hospital
walls, museum facades, community centers, public spaces and prisons
throughout our country. Additionally, Tape Art has demonstrated great
potential as a teaching tool, allowing large groups to collaborate
on their own murals, fostering both communication and community.
In learning environments
Tape Art has been a wild success. Without
preconceived notions about tape as a drawing medium - learners of any
age start from an open and fresh perspective. This freshness creates
confidence, and in turn, confident creatures create spectacular drawings.
A
decade and a half after the first simple tape art drawings were made,
the process continues to usher forth-new ideas and demands, always
evolving.
