Matt My partner Jon And I just finished a tape art mural of a person throwing a baseball. I modeled for it while Jon marked it. He made the head, legs, and part of the body. I made the glove, his arms, and feet.

Jonathan Matt and I made a portrait of him pitching in a baseball game. First we outlined his arm that was holding the ball. Second we made his head and front arm. We gave him an eye and mouth. Then Stu came over and told us to give him hair, so we did. After that we finished his legs and gave him a glove.

Rose Our theme was SPORTS. I did a gymnast. I first made the head. I did all the detail on the head. I did the eyes, nose, mouth but I didn't do the hair yet. I saved it for last. Then I did the 2 arms, leotard and the legs. One leg was bending. Then I did a medal. Stu and Mike helped me a lot. Stu and Mike are tape artists. They asked me where the legs and arms should go. Then I made the hair. The hair was in a bun

Jon The sport I picked is called Hackey Sack. What you do is take a hackey sack throw it to the opposite teams side they catch it they get one point. It is a very competive sport and I like it.

Hello my name is Philip. My friend and I did a tape-art picture of two guys playing catch. First I saw how tall I was and started with the head. Then I started down. And then I did the grass. My friend made the who was throwing & the ground and the ball.

By Jonathan My partner and I did a hockey goalie. It was a lot of fun. We took measurments using a real person. The hardest part was the mask. I wish we could do Tape Art every art class. I hope we get to do it again. If you get a chance you get a chance you should try it.

By Bo My picture is about a hockey goalie. I made this goalie by taping around my body and then connected the tape. After that, I just made equipment that goalies wear. Then I just put details on the picture.

Cari I made a person throwing a frisbee. I chose frisbee because it is a different sport than most people think of. Most people think of baseball, basket ball, and hockey when they hear the word sports. Tape art was pretty hard especially when we had to curve the tape.

Crystal Our tape art theme was sports. I made a juggler. I started with the tape head, then I made the body. The hardest part was the arms. After that I made the 4 juggling balls around my person. It was really fun. Two really good Tape artists came and helped and showed us how to do it.

Connor John I made a hockey player. Our other friends Bo and Jon made a hockey goalie. We made a picture with a hockey shooting a puck at the goalie. I like tape art. I hope we do it again.

John How to tape art. First you make a pose on the wall if you have a partner. Have your mark off spots on the wall. Then you tape over them. If you don't have a partner mark off spots on the wall that look like a body. Next you tape over it. I hope we have tape art again.

Melissa I made a soccer player with a 10 on her shirt. I like soccer and sometimes I play it after school in my yard. The men who taught us the tape art had been doing the tape art for 9 years. They made 300 murals.

Kate Tape Art In art class we did Tape Art. Our class did sports for a theme. I did a Soccer goalie who is punting the ball. My friend Gabby did a soccer player who just the ball. I started with the outline and added all the details.

Gabby For our schools Art class this week we made tape art. All the different theme. My classes theme was sports. I made a soccer player and my friend Kate made a soccer goalie. Kate's soccer goalie was kicking a soccer ball to my soccer player. It was hard making the head. Stew taught us how to make the head. We had a really fun time!!

Kyrie My sports person is a swimmer. She has a bathing cap on top of her head. The sport swimming is sometime competitive like in the Olympics especially. The Tape art was kind of easy to work with. It was a lot of work but it was fun.

Right now the class has just exited into the hallways on a mission.

The mission: Remove the mural.
The feelings: Who knows... but we will ask them as soon as they come back.

So, there, how did it feel to remove the mural?
Fine, felt good, weird, awesome, scary.
Why?
Watching the figures disappearing into balls of tape, watching the wall become bare felt good. But kinda sad.
Is the wall different than it was before?
Yes, it is just bricks now.... It looked like a piece of paper without picture. Blank - a wall is a wall.
How about working life size?
It's like looking at another person, like making a mirror-friend.
How about using your body to draw - was this easier?
Yess.
It was you who wanted to keep the ball.
Yeah.
Why would you want to do that?
Floor hockey. I still have a little piece - one of the eyes as a souvenir of the experience... like the web site will be a souvenir of the experience.

Is tape art hard?
No, it was not that hard - fingers are hard face features to big too small. I couldn't curve it at the start.
Could you by the end?
Yes. I never thought tape would bend like that.
What else do you need to know about tape art?
Learn how to curve before you start to curve. Think before you do things. Tape art is really fun.

Marcia Waldman (Teacher): "Some people waited till the very end to remove their face, like eating your favorite thing last. They were being sentimental with their work. When you were working on the tape art it was life sized. Now it is photos for everyone to see on the web site. There is no need to be sad - these works are an installation, they are not meant to be permanent and last for centuries."
