The Barrington Blue Crew Present: TAPE-O-RAMA Introduction
Workshop # 2 Workshop # 4
Workshop # 1 Workshop # 3 Community Mural

The Barrington Blue Crew
(with Art Teachers from Hampden Meadows and St. Andrews)

This Artist- in- Residency was made possible through grants from:

and the support of:
Barrington School District and the PTA Boards of St. Andrew's and Hampden Meadows Schools.

First there was : Wild Walls.
250 5th graders and 150 6th-12th graders took to their walls transforming two Barrington Schools into a maze of blue. Class by class, themed murals ranging from "Self- Portraits in Metamorphosis" to "The Circus" and "The Chinese Garden" to "Alice -in- Wonderland" are created directly onto every available wall.
Next : The Chosen Ones are chosen.
Enticed by the Wild Walls experience, students vie for a place on the inter-school mural team. All-told, twenty students were chosen : ten 5th graders from Hampden Meadows School and ten 12th graders from St. Andrew's School.
And Then : Public Art Bootcamp.
The new recruits are put through their paces through a series of six drawing-packed workshops. These ranged from skeleton studies and gestural exercises to creating a story from random surrealist elements.
(The links from this page lead to a page giving each of these workshops a visual overview. These pages were created by the students themselves.)

The Climactic Debut : 16 May 1999. 1:00pm-4:00pm(ish)
The Barrington Blue Crew are ready to transform a wall near you (if you live in Barrington). They will put their new art skills to the test at their first public mural in downtown Barrington by Center Market from 1:00pm. Come and witness art in the making and talk to the crew members.
The Public Rip-down: 18 May 1999. 7:00pm
Always temporary, these murals are ceremonially removed within a few days. Come and join in the 'creation' of a fleeting mural. Take away tape, pictures and memories.
