Galleries

These are the galleries for the student drawings at the Kowloon Technical School.

The residency at the Kowloon Technical School has provided the opportunity for a few Tape Art murals.  The first was done with a group of 48 students at the same time.  I suggested that we start with self-portraits and then they decided that the location of the drawing would be in a grocery store.

After that we looked to focus our efforts on a smaller group.  To find the new Tape Art drawing group, we worked with the social worker at the school to find a collection of students that could stand to benefit from some collaborative image making.

Ms. Lam was able to identify a group that I call the Social Students.  We decided to do a series of three murals with them.  The first one, we would start the content. The second, they would control the content and location and lastly we would take them to a public venue to draw.

For the first drawing, we started with self-portraits and they decided that all the figures in the drawings are in a bathroom.  The drawing was done on the edge of the basketball courts and they did a fantastic job staying focused!

Then they tested their focus even further with a drawing created on the exterior of the school, 8 feet from a busy city street. After a long brain-storming session they decided to do mountains (as the location) an old man telling stories (as the action) and various absurdities (as just that.)

For their final mural, we are looking at local senior homes.  Some are open to the idea, but the scheduling is a bit tough for matching up the school times with the senior times.  Our back-up is the Boys and Girls Club (not affiliated with the one from the United States.)
