Day Three: Monday: The drawing at the home of the Forrest's
What a beautiful home with such a horrific problem - a rafter squid. Upon arriving at this household we were given a grade A enthusiastic tour by Mrs. Forrest and her young daughter. There were lots of potentially interesting walls tucked away in stairwells and short hallways. The kitchen space was adjoined to the living room/TV area and the result was one big beautiful uninterrupted expanse with a floating counter/stove top in the middle. This space was truly grand, and topping it off was a truly vast white ceiling punctuated by a dozen inset lighting fixtures. While standing in the kitchen, the mother apologized for the square hole that had been chopped into this pristine ceiling. The hole had apparently been made to try to ferret out the source of a leak that had caused some problems. Upon bringing notice to this problem hole, we realized that there was a great potential for a drawing that focused on just how bad the problem was or could be. What if it was not just water dripping down... but the hole in the ceiling opened up a portal revealing a squid of some sorts living in the rafters? And let's say this rafter squid, feeling prompted or slighted for some reason, decided to extend down in a quick and furious fashion into the kitchen? Then let's say, the delightful, charming and intelligent little daughter went out to meet this squid, or reason with it, or give it cookies and was instantly snatched up off her feet? As these events were being drawn, we also started looking for the impact on the rest of the family. Tucked away around the corner, we drew the Mom, armed with an egg-beater, ready to do battle with this multi-legged ceiling terror. We drew our inspirations from so many Sigourney Weaver situations where she has had to do battle with the aliens occupying her precious airspace. The house is also home to two young men and the father. Evidence of their existence and energy are everywhere in the form of various hockey-themed sports toys and hints of chaos. The three men-folk were humourously rendered peaking out from behind the television, in full support of their mother's efforts to thwart this beast. Meanwhile, the squid is picking up various objects from the kitchen and flailing them about.
And that is what happened to the Forrests', in case you haven't heard from them lately.
